Video Flashback:West Coast Rap All-Stars, We're All In The Same Gang

While on Youtube, I came across a video that instantly made me flash back to my youth. The video in question was a massive hit in 1990 and featured some of rap's biggest names at the time.

"We're all in the same gang" by the West Coast Rap All-Stars was a collective effort by then rap heavy weights to help raise awareness and put a end to gang related violence.

The video includes verses from the likes of King Tee, Body & Soul, Def Jef, Michel'le, Tone-Loc, Above The Law, Ice-T, Dr. Dre & MC Ren, Young MC, Digital Underground, MC Hammer, Eazy-E and others. It's a classic example of when rap/hip-hop artist actually cared about important social issues and weren't strictly focused on themselves.

Nike Dunk SB-Teen Wolf

Nike continues to pull inspiration from movies. The latest being from the 1985 movie Teen Wolf staring Michael J. Fox

The Teen Wolf inspired Nike SB Dunk features a yellow and blue colorway that represents The Beacon Beavers jersey colorway and hits of brown fur found on the tongue and heel.

Only 72 pairs were produced and can be purchased now at any house of hoops location or through Osneaker.

Nike Dunk Coraline Movie Props Edition

Nike is set to release a very limited Nike Dunk inspired by the upcoming movie Coraline. This Nike Dunk takes inspiration from the film and features several unique touches such as a hand sewn black visible seam on the upper and a glow in the dark sole. Director Henry Selick (A Nightmare before Christmas)designed the over size buttons that will be found on 1000 pairs of this special shoe.

In addition, 50 pairs will come with actual props used in the movie such as the cotton candy displayed in the pic above. If you're looking to get your hands on a pair of these you'll have to watch Coraline and stay after the credits to get a clue on how to do so.

Update 2/6/09: At the end of the credits a clue is given. Once you have this clue go to the official Coraline websiteand search the various areas of the site. Eventually you should find the Nike Dunks and will be prompted to enter the clue that was given at the end of the credits. Then, you'll be prompted to answer a question that corresponds with the movie. Once that is done you'll be entered into the drawing that will happen in March. Good luck.

Boxxy

A couple of week's ago a friend of mine sent me a link to a video that I instantly became fascinated with. The video featured a young girl named Boxxy wearing a lot of eyeliner going off on a tangent about several different topics and who's facial expressions reminded me of Anime characters.

Little did I know there was a back story to this video and the other two videos in her account. I do not feel like going into detail about said back story but, thankfully someone else did and wrote up a pretty detailed blog about it.

Eventually this video broke 1 million views on Youtube and people either loved or hated it. Some took their hate for the video too far and managed to hack into Boxxy's account and remove the videos as well as a bunch of other shady stuff all documented here.

At any rate, it would appear that the video has been restored much to my delight and thought I'd share it with you all. I give to you..Boxxy.

Nike Zoom Kobe IV MLK Day Mamba Colorway

If you watched the game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers yesterday you'd had seen Kobe Bryant help lead his team past LeBron James and the Cavs 105-88.

Sneaker heads who watched the game may have noticed that Kobe had on a special colorway of his signature shoe the Nike Zoom Kobe IV. The colorway was in honor of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Whom's dream of a country where people of all creeds and races would one day coexist in harmony we were celebrating on this day.

This Mamba colorway features a White upper, a Gold Swoosh, a Gold snake print ankle, and a White to Purple gradient toebox. At this time it is not known if and when this colorway will be released to the general public.

I admit that I'm a fan of British humor. I find it to be a little more on the dry and sarcastic side and often times a little more clever than that of comedy here in the states.

A good example would be this PSA for safe sex in which a guy tries everything to convince his girlfriend that there's no need to use a condom.

Dairy Pillows Of The Day: Rosario Dawson

It's hard to believe that I've been doing this blog for almost a year now and I've yet to feature the lovely and talented Rosario Dawson in a DPOTD post. I figured what better time than today to do so considering she's hosting tonight's SNL.

Rosario's star continues to rise each proceeding year. She stared in the Gemini Divison a popular online Sci-Fi series, has numerous projects coming up that include a second volume of her hit comic book The Occult Crimes Task Force, voice roles in Rob Zombie's animated feature The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto and the upcoming animated Wonder Woman feature. Not to mention she's set to reprise her role as Gail in Sin City 2 set to release in 2010.

And if that wasn't enough she also provided the lone reason to watch Alexander.

Nike Cortez "Forrest Gump" White/Red/Blue 2009 Retro

The Nike Cortez has always been considered a classic running show. The shoe took on iconic status when it was featured in Forrest Gump back in 1994. In 2009 Nike will pay tribute to the Nike Cortez throughout the year and as part of this tribute, they are set to release the White,Red and Blue colorway that was featured in Forrest Gump. A exact release date isn't set but, it's anticipated that these will release late Spring or Early Summer.

Rain Of Madness-Right Of Passage

If you purchased the special edition Tropic Thunder DVD then you're already well aware of the Rain of madness documentary. A faux documentary that follows the production and cast of Tropic Thunder.

One of my favorite scenes is when Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr) who has immersed himself into the role of Osiris so deep that he had the family of Lincoln Osisris (whom he's portraying) flown out to the set and they all share a hotel together. The youngest son Sterling is the only one who isn't going along with the act which prompts a baptism.

The latest marketing move by Jordan Brand has recently hit Youtube in the form of a promo commercial that announces the Air Jordan 2009 is on it's way.

The Jordan 2009 is officially set to drop on Feb 14 but, a limited edition will release at the end of this month on the 31st.

Under The Influence:Beastie Boys Artwork

Fans of legendary rap trio The Beastie Boys can now own one of a kind artwork thanks in part to art gallery 1988 based out of Los Angeles and San Francisco

100 artists have contributed to this tribute to the band titled "Under The Influence". The showcase takes place January 8-29 at the LA gallery with a portion of the proceeds going to the Gramercy Housing Group at the Beastie Boys request.

90s Rock Songs A Video Retrospective Part 4

It's a bit tardy but, here is the fourth installment at my look back at rock songs from the 90s. A time when bands weren't overly concerned with their image and just focused on making good music. If you've missed the previous installments or, if you just want a quick recap feel free to take a look at Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of this series.

In this installment we'll take a look back at bands that forever changed the rock scene and in the process created a new genre known as grunge music.

Temple Of The Dog - Hunger Strike

Temple Of The Dog-Hunger Strike. Temple of the Dog was an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. It was conceived by Chris Cornell of Soundgarden as a tribute to his friend, the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. The line-up included Stone Gossard on rhythm guitar, Jeff Ament on bass guitar (both ex-members of Mother Love Bone), Mike McCready on lead guitar, Matt Cameron on drums and Eddie Vedder providing backing vocals.

The band released its only album, the self-titled Temple of the Dog, in April 1991 through A&M Records. Although earning praise from music critics at the time of its release, the album was not widely recognized until 1992, when Vedder, Ament, Gossard and McCready had their commercial breakthrough with Pearl Jam.

Alice in Chains No Excuses

Alice In Chains-No Excuses. While Alice in chains had a ton of hits in the 90s (would, Rooster, Man in the Box) No excuses was their only number 1 hit. The song is off the Jar of Flies ep which, spawned when the band went in the studio with their acoustic equipment just to mess around. The album was never meant to be released but, the record label heard it and liked it enough to release it. It debuted at 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming the first ever EP—and first Alice in Chains release—to top the charts

Sound Garden-Black Hole Sun. The music video for "Black Hole Sun" became a hit on MTV and received the award for Best Metal/Hard Rock Video at the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards.Black Hole Sun also received a grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance.

Pearl Jam-Yellow Ledbetter. While this song wasn't on any of Pearl Jam's studio albums it did appear as the B-side to the single for Jeremy. In My opinion it's the greatest song the band has ever produced and it still gets a ton of play on my ipod.

Nirvana-Smells Like Teen Spirit. You can't have a list about the grunge scene with out the band and song that started it all. The first single off of the album Nevermind, Smells like Teen Spirit quickly gained momentum due to heavy play on MTV.

Despite low commercial expectations by the band and its record label, Nevermind became a surprise success in late 1991, largely due to the popularity of, Smells Like Teen Spirit. By January 1992 it had replaced Michael Jackson's album Dangerous at number one on the Billboard charts. The album has been certified ten times platinum (10 million copies shipped) by the Recording Industry Association of America.

A new trailer for Broken Lizard's (Super Troopers, Beerfest and the often over looked Club Dread) latest film The Slammin' Salmon has recently surfaced on the Internet.

The official synopsis reads: Former heavyweight boxing champ Cleon Salmon (Michael Clarke Duncan) is the celebrity owner of an upscale Miami restaurant. In debt to the Yakuza, the Champ “inspires” his waitstaff with a one-night-only contest: Top selling waiter gets $10,000; lowest selling waiter gets his face punched in by the Champ himself.

The new trailer hints that the film could have heavy political undertones as we witness President Nixon, Fidel Castro, the assassination of JFK as well as the revelation of the mysterious second shooter on the grassy knoll and it isn't Lee Harvey Oswald.

Nike Japan has teamed with animation house Studio 4°C and legendary director Koji Morimoto (robot carnival,The Animatrix)to create a new anime short to help promote the latest option on Nike iD.

In the short 3 beings sporting Nike Blazers, in the primary colors of blue, red, yellow & green, colorize a city scape in monotone grey. The Nike iD Real City site also includes a interactive version of the short where you become the painter of the city scape via your Nike iD Blazer.

Dairy Pillows Of The Day: Duke Suicide

Today's DPOTD post is dedicated to one of my top 10 favorite Suicide Girls, Duke. Duke first appeared on the Suicide Girls website in May of 2007 and she instantly became a favorite among the site's many users.

She followed up with another set in December of 2007 and hadn't been seen in pictorials on the site since. If memory serves me correct she had the intentions of leaving SG behind and never looking back. At least I believe that's what she said at one time on her Myspace page.

It would appear as if she's had a change of heart as she will once again grace the Suicide Girls website with a new pictorial set to debut in the coming weeks. Below you will find 6 images from the set titled "the real me".
