Frank Miller on The Spirit

Via the Spirit's production blog Frank Miller recently addressed the comparisons to the look of The upcoming Spirit movie with Sin City as well as why The Spirit's suit isn't blue like in the comic strips. Miller writes: “In tests — and we did several — the blue made the Spirit look like an unfortunate guest at a Halloween party,” he writes. “Going to black brings back his essential mystery, his Zorro-like sexiness. It also makes that red tie of his look very, very cool. So I made the call, with all respect to Eisner’s creation, and most importantly, to what I perceived as his underlying intention. It was an easy call for me to make. The Spirit dresses in black, and looks much the better for it. As I said, my desire was never to slavishly follow the rules of ’40s printing into campy oblivion, but to reintroduce Eisner’s creation, via modern technology, to our brave new world.” You can read the full entry here The Spirit stars Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Jamie King and Paz Vega and is set for a Christmas 2008 release.

Supermax: Green Arrow Story Details Announced

Details of the script for Supermax the Green Arrow movie have hit the net via Latino Review. In it we learn what to expect from the upcoming film. David Goyer had this to say about the film last year while being interviewed by Wizard Magazine: "He’s Green Arrow for the first 10 minutes of the movie, and then he’s arrested and his secret identity is revealed. They shave his goatee and they take his costume and send him to prison for life, and he has to escape. It’s like ‘Alcatraz,’ and he has to team up with, in some cases, some of the very same villains he is responsible for incarcerating in order to get out and clear his name. Of course, tons of people try to kill him while he’s in there. We’ve populated the prison with all sorts of B and C villains from the DC Universe. For the fans, there will be all sorts of characters the hardcore comic book junkies will know, but they’re all going to be there under their human names and no one is wearing a costume, but there will be a lot of characters with powers and things like that." Fans can also expect cameos from lesser known DC Characters such as Shock Trauma, Count Vertigo, Blockbuster, Gemini and a slew of other "B" and "C" list super villains. Even cooler,The Joker, Lex Luthor, and The Riddler all make cameos. You can read the entire detailed report Here

Lets Get Ready To Stumble

Former Major League slugger and Steroid advocate Jose Canseco is looking for a boxing opponent.

According to news articles Jose's agent Damon Feldman sent out an email stating that they are looking for a opponent for a boxing match to take place in Atlantic City on July 12.

In return this person will get $5,000 and "become a star over night".

I'm sure there are countless people that would love to step into the ring and whip Jose's ass many of whom are named in his book. But, wouldn't it be great if a professional fighter whether it be boxer or MMA took Jose up on his challenge?

I'm sure that'd definitely would draw some big buy rates.

If nothing else Jose can always take solace in knowing He shagged the chick in the banner pic rotten it only cost him $7-$8 Million.

Awe, Look At The Cute "Puppies"

One of My favorite ladies on Myspace recently uploaded the pic that you currently can't take your eyes off of.

I'm instantly reminded why I love "puppies" so much and yearn to spoon with Denise and her puppies while Technotronic subtly plays in the background.

I Waited 19 Years For This?

There was speculation that due to all the secrecy surrounding the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise that the movie is less than stellar.

Over the past 4 days I've read mixed reviews many positive from fans that had seen it. One review worried Me though and that was from a friend of mine. He emailed Me with quote "INDY..is garbage." end quote.

I was worried about seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull now because, He and I usually agree on films and whether or not they are good or ass.

I had intended on waiting until Tuesday when a lot of the hype and crowds died down but, boredom got the best of Me so, I headed to My local theater today and took in a screening of this latest offering from one of My all time favorite franchises.

*SPOILER ALERT* This movie sucked! *END SPOILERS*

The movie revolves around an ancient artifact known as the crystal skull. Legend says that once the skull is returned to the golden city the person who returns it will control it's powers.

Naturally, "evil" wants the Crystal Skull in this case, the Soviets. Prior to Indy being forced to retrieve the Crystal Skull we learn that the past few years haven't been kind to him, his Father Henry Jones Sr. passed away, He got black listed by the FBI and he loses his job as a college professor.

Along the way Indy encounters "Mutt" Williams (Shia LaBeouf) who tells him that his mentor Professor "Ox" Oxley had left him a note and that He needed Indy's help because the Soviets captured both Professor Oxley and his mother.

Reluctantly Indy agrees to help Mutt. Eventually Mutt and Indy do in fact retrieve the Crystal Skull thanks in part to clues left by Professor Oxley only to lose the skull to the Soviets.

Turns out the skull was that of a creature from out of this world. Yes, this movie turns into a sci fi flick about Aliens. Because, that's exactly what I waited 19 years for, a INDIANA JONES movie about ALIENS.

The two biggest highlights of the film involve Mutt. There's a cool jungle scene with Monkey's where Mutt swings from vine to vine ala Tarzan and a very cool sword fight between He and Irina Spalko played flawlessly by Cate Blanchett.

The movie does have it's good qualities. The cast is superb and Harrison Ford shows that even at 65 years of age he can still play the Indy character to perfection. Shia LaBeouf continue to show why His star continues to rise. And the directing by Steven Spielberg is on point as are several of the visual effects.

Sadly, the screenplay for this fourth installment was all over the place and it capitalized on ridiculousness and is the films biggest down fall.

I'm not positive that this will not be the final installment in this franchise. The door has been left open for a 5th film and beyond with Mutt possibly taking over the helm.

Over all, I was highly disappointed and don't recommend paying more than Matinee prices to see it. In fact, I fully condone paying to see a superior film (Iron Man) and then later sneaking into Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Snake Charmer

I'm sure by now many of You have seen the now infamous clip where Kobe Bryant appears to jump over an on coming Aston Martin. If not, take a minute and get familiar...
Impressed? Yeah, I wasn't either. Because unlike the masses I was able to come to the conclusion that this stunt was achieved through the use of blue screen and special effects. Yes, this is nothing more than a commerical for Nike's newest shoe the Hyper dunk. Naturally after over 2 million views on Youtube there would have to be a follow up video...
Yeah, that looked pretty realistic, if it was a flippin' John Woo stunt. I plead with you that are easily convinced to not be so stupid and realize this is nothing more than a series of clever and mildly entertaining clips by Nike promoting Kobe's new shoe.

The Force Is Stong

There's a thin line between fantasy and reality apparently people in Wales can't distinguish the two. HOLYHEAD, Wales - A man who dressed up as Darth Vader, wearing a garbage bag for a cape, and assaulted the founders of a group calling itself the Jedi church was given a suspended sentence Tuesday. Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27, attacked Jedi church founder Barney Jones — aka Master Jonba Hehol — with a metal crutch, hitting him on the head, prosecutors told Holyhead Magistrates' Court. He also whacked Jones' 18-year-old cousin, Michael Jones — known as Master Mormi Hehol — bruising his thigh in the March 25 incident, prosecutors said

I can only imagine the pain and suffering one's anus would endure after consuming one of these burgers. Just look at that picture, doesn't it scream wholesome ass rippings? That said, I must try one.

REVIEW-Iron Man

Unless you live in a cave or under a rock You should have seen the new Iron Man movie that started This past Friday with advanced showings being shown Thursday night.

Being an avid comic reader I grew up a HUGE Iron Man fan. Naturally, My expectations for this film were high and, all expectations were exceeded.

With out going into detail and dropping spoilers I will give a brief synopsis of the film. Tony Starks (Robert Downey Jr.) is head of Starks enterprises who manufacture the most advanced Weapons of War.

While on a trip to Afghanistan to show off Stark Enterprises latest invention, the Jericho Missle Starks Humvee is attacked by Afghan rebels and Starks is captured and held captive with his captures demanding that He makes them a Jericho missile.

At first Tony says no but eventually gives in so it seems. We're introduced to Yinsen (Shaun Toub) who we discover is the one responsible for Tony remaining alive thanks to a unique medical procedure that is preventing shrapnel from entering into Tony's blood stream.

The two form a bond and eventually Yinsen helps Tony design the first model of the Iron Man suit. Tony escapes and makes his way back to America in which he immediately calls for a press conference where he announces he is shutting down the weapons manufacturing department of Starks enterprises effective immediately.

From there we follow Tony as he sets out to perfect the Iron Man suit.

Iron Man is the by far the best Marvel movie to date and, should please ANY die hard Iron Man fan as well as the casual fan who may not be too familiar with Tony Starks and the Iron Man character.

Rounding out the cast is Gwyneth Paltrow who plays Tony Starks assistant "Pepper" Potts, Jeff Bridges who plays Tony Starks mentor Obadiah Stane and Terrence Howard who plays Starks friend and confidant James "Roadie" Rhodes.

I think it's safe to say I would have enjoyed this movie more both times that I've seen it (as of this typing) if it weren't for the jack asses who can't seem to be quit.

Honestly, is it really a good idea to bring an infant to an action flick? Really?

LEAVE MILEY ALONE *tears*

By now You should have heard about the controversy surrounding what many are calling provocative photos of Disney Channel star Miley Cyrus set to appear in an upcoming issue of Vanity Fair. For those unfamiliar here's one of the photo's in question...
Photographer Annie Leibovitz had this to say about the photo "We discussed the picture in that context before we shot it. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful," said Leibovitz in a comment released through Vanity Fair. Miley had this to say, "I think it's really artsy. It wasn't in a skanky way.... I thought that was really cool." says a caption released with the photo by Vanity Fair. Not exactly what Miley is saying now amidst all the controversy "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed." I find it appalling that people in the media have nothing better to do than to belittle a 15 year old over something as harmless as her back being shown. Where was the controversy at the Academy Awards?
